Aker Solutions traces their origins back to a small mechanical workshop founded on the Aker River in Oslo nearly 200 years ago.

Adoption of RISE with SAP to S/4HANA

Aker Solutions implemented an on-premise SAP ECC 4.7 system in 2003. In the following years, the business went through a series of mergers and divestitures, resulting in an increased volume of data.

Their landscape changed again in 2018 when they moved to HEC SAP S/4HANA^®605, and then again in 2023 when they decided to adopt RISE with SAP to S/4HANA.

The company was using full system copies, which resulted in a large non-production environment that was not optimised, and did not comply with GDPR laws. They looked for a solution to reduce their test systems while maintaining data integrity and scrambling the data. This also had to work for RISE with SAP.

Secure data, and QA system reduction of 80%

By implementing Client Sync, part of the EPI-USE Labs Data Sync Manager™ (DSM) Suite, and selecting a two-year time slice, Aker Solutions reduced the QAS system from 2TB to 350 GB – a reduction of over 80%.

In addition, key company-sensitive data was anonymised with Data Secure™, also part of the DSM Suite, in accordance with SAP’s cloud policy, which doesn’t allow personal data in test systems. This is also compliant with GDPR and data privacy regulations.

Great value from automated SAP test data process

Aker Solutions is already reaping the benefits of moving to S/4HANA with RISE. Reducing their non-production systems with DSM has drastically improved their business case for RISE, and will continue to deliver the benefit of keeping their QA system size under control.

Leveraging Data Sync Manager, Aker Solutions can now manage data volumes more efficiently, maintain relevant and accurate data for testing, and reduce costs, while complying with privacy regulations. These benefits lead to overall more efficient and effective testing processes. The savings also paid for the DSM Suite.

They see the benefit of having an automated solution to refresh data when they need it, reducing effort and risk when refreshing QA/Test systems from Production.
