It turns out that ten giraffes in South Africa were in desperate need of a new home. Without intervention, they were at high risk of being culled.
At EPI-USE Labs, we never shy away from a challenge. So, we joined forces with our colleagues from Elephants, Rhinos & People (ERP) to become part of the operation, 'Save the Giraffes'.
The goal was to raise $750 per giraffe to cover transportation costs to relocate them safely to the ERP Melorane Game Reserve, community-owned land that we lease to support the local community in building a sustainable future for people and wild animals to thrive together. We spread the word as fast as we could, reaching out to clients, partners and colleagues for any support. To our delight, the cause was rapidly supported and we were able to raise the funds to save all ten giraffes within 24 hours!
Thanks to the generosity of so many people, these magnificent creatures will roam free and safe in the ERP nature reserve. Giraffes are fascinating and unique creatures that play a crucial role in our ecosystem. Unfortunately, they are currently facing a population decline due to habitat loss, poaching and climate change. This makes preserving them all the more important. By protecting giraffes and their habitats, we can help ensure the survival of these majestic animals, as well as the delicate balance of the ecosystem they contribute to.
As a reward for the donation, the donors received the opportunity to name the giraffes. We would appreciate your input, too! Please send us your name ideas for our giraffes who now roam safe and free.
This is just one example of how ERP is making a real difference. Not just for elephants, rhinos, and people, but for other species in need, whilst enriching the whole ecosystem at the ERP Melorane reserve.
We work to find solutions to even the most challenging situations, whether in the SAP world or in the real world. That’s why I feel so lucky to work for a company that goes ‘beyond corporate purpose’ and gives us the opportunity to make a difference. ERP is running a number of incredible projects, #BIKESFORERP, ERP Honey, and Feeding Schemes for orphans and vulnerable people, just to name a few!
The thriving ecosystem created by ERP fosters a balanced coexistence between local communities and a diverse array of animal species. It's not just about survival anymore - the ecosystem is flourishing. We are delighted by this remarkable achievement.
Who would have thought that a single email could lead to such a transformative experience, giving us the opportunity to make a positive impact on the world?
