SAP’s HCM and Payroll Reporting strategy

In June 2018, SAP made the announcement about the launch of People Analytics powered by SAP Analytics Cloud as the future for HCM reporting. Since then, I have published a few items about the journey to People Analytics and what this means for SAP clients, including the popular book What is SAP SuccessFactors People Analytics?

There have been some important updates on the People Analytics front, so now is a good time to share the top ten things you need to know about SAP SuccessFactors People Analytics.

The top ten things you need to know are...
  1. People Analytics is not a tool, but rather an umbrella term for all things reporting, analytics and strategy for Human Capital Management (HCM).
  2. People Analytics is composed of three solutions, known as Report Stories (formerly the Embedded edition), the Advanced Edition and the Planning Edition, each of which has a different focus area, as detailed below.

  3. Report Stories in People Analytics is the future of all reporting for SAP SuccessFactors and it is included in a SuccessFactors product license. The Advanced and Planning editions of People Analytics each require a separate license.
  4. Report Stories leverages the Report Center which can be used to report on live, transactional data from SuccessFactors, including the data sources noted below.

  5. Payroll reporting, whether on-premise SAP or via SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll, is currently planned as a potential item for development in 2021. Clients wishing to report on Payroll data can leverage the SAP-certified Query Manager solution.
  6. On-premise SAP data, including configuration data, is not planned to be part of Report Stories. Clients wishing to report on live data from SAP and SuccessFactors at the same time can leverage the SAP-certified Query Manager solution.

  7. Learning data is scheduled for a beta launch in 2020 H2. This launch will not be integrated/blended into the other SuccessFactors data. There is currently no timeline for blended learning data for Report Stories.
  8. Report Templates will be available for download in the customer community.
  9. Prerequisites include enabling the Report Center and SAP Cloud Platform Identity Authentication Service before they can begin using Report Stories.
  10. The People Analytics Advanced and Planning Edition Roadmaps are currently “paused” until the technologies are ready to deliver the appropriate experience for SAP SuccessFactors clients.

SAP SuccessFactors People Analytics is designed for all things HCM, while SAP Analytics Cloud and the Digital Boardroom are designed for all general purpose business intelligence not offered by People Analytics.
